Wheaton College - Norton, MA
2014 Visiting Artist Program
In 2014, our founders Tyler & Monica Aiello embarked on an extensive residency at Wheaton College in Norton, MA. Their visit united the science, art and education departments though many investigations of interdisciplinary content and professional practice. The Aiellos were on-hand for studio visits, class talks and a public lecture. They also presented two fascinating workshops with planetary scientist Professor Geoffrey Collins which explored the connections between art and space science. The residency culminated with a workshop uniting both students and faculty in the creation of a public art piece inspired by Titan RADAR data. Students analyzed RADAR images of Saturn’s mysterious moon and conveyed their discoveries through mixed-media and found object collage.
The Aiellos’ residency coincided with a show of their work at the Inner & Outer Space exhibition at the college's Beard & Weil Galleries. Their residency was made possible through generous collaborations between Gallery Director & Curator Michele L'Heureux, Dr. Collins and other faculty. The Aiello's residency was co-sponsored by the Evelyn Danzig Haas '39 Visiting Artist Program and the Wheaton Institute for the Interdisciplinary Humanities.
